Preserving love

I was reading “It’s All About Love” a couple days ago, and was especially moved by the section on “preserving one another”. It was the first time I’d thought of love as a preserving agent.

When you are in possession of a rare item, you want to ensure its longevity and see to it that it is well cared for and preserved. This is the same kind of love and care that I want you to extend to each other.

I thought about the people I live with. (As a missionary in the Family International , I live communally with about 15 others.) There is so much wealth of talent in my home. I live with artists, dancers, bilingual translators, childcare workers, cooks, teachers, entertainers, and designers who have all polished their skills to professional calibers. What unites us all is our deep love for Jesus Christ and a desire to share Him with others.

So I’m just amazed at how much these awesome people do for Jesus, and I want to be all I can be for them.  It’s not at all complicated. Like Mother Teresa said, “Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, needs to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired.” Much of love is about simply being there at the right time for the right person.
